How to Add Video to a Technical Catalog: Show Machines in Action
Link operation, installation and maintenance videos to the product photos in your printed machinery catalog. One QR code, no app, step-by-step guide.
For machinery and industrial equipment manufacturers, the printed technical catalog is a core sales tool across the dealer network, in field sales and at industry trade fairs. Adding video to the product photos lets you show the machine in operation, plus installation and maintenance steps, alongside the technical drawings.
How does it work?
The customer opens the QR code in the catalog once with their phone camera and allows camera access. They then point the phone at any product photo; the phone recognises it and plays the video linked to that product. No app is needed. Even in a catalog with hundreds of products, a single QR code is enough.
Which videos can you add?
- Operation footage: the machine running on a production line or in the field.
- Installation and commissioning: connections, settings and first start-up steps.
- Maintenance: scheduled maintenance, part replacement and common faults.
- Operator training: short training videos for operators and service teams.
Step by step
- Check the photos: Models in the same series can look alike; check them with the free image test before printing. Printing the model code near the photo makes them easier to tell apart.
- Prepare the videos: Keep operation and installation videos to 1–2 minutes; split longer training into parts.
- Match them in the panel: Upload a video for each product photo or add a Drive or Dropbox link.
- Add the QR code to the print: Put the QR code with a short prompt on the cover and at the start of each section.
The catalog stays the same when a product is updated
When a product is revised or a new installation method is introduced, you only update the video in the panel. Catalogs in the field and at dealers show current information without reprinting.
For dealer and service networks
Dealers and service technicians reach the right video through the product photo without searching, so your support team gets fewer repeat questions. In the panel you track which product draws interest in which region, how often it was viewed and from which devices it was scanned.
Letting customers reach you
When the video ends, “Ask on WhatsApp” and “Call” buttons can appear. The message includes which product it came from, so quote and technical support requests reach you directly.
