Video Print for Printers and Agencies: Offer Your Clients a New Service
How printers and agencies can offer video on printed work: workflow, pricing, pre-press checks and partnership. Make catalogs, brochures and posters play video.
Printers and advertising agencies print catalogs, brochures, posters and packaging every day. The question clients ask more and more often is: "How can we connect this to digital?" Adding video to printed work is an easy way to add a service to the printer's existing business and build a longer relationship with the client.
What is the service?
Videos are added to the photos in a printed catalog, brochure or poster. The reader opens the QR code in the catalog once with their phone camera, then points the phone at any photo; the phone recognises it and plays the video linked to that photo. No app is needed. The page design doesn't change; a single QR code goes on the cover or first page.
Why it makes sense for a printer
- It differentiates your quote: among printers quoting the same job, offering a "video catalog" makes you stand out.
- It strengthens print instead of replacing it: rather than dropping print because "everything is digital now", the client makes their printed material more effective.
- Measurable results: the client sees how often each page was scanned and makes the next print decision with data.
- A recurring relationship: videos and analytics continue after the print run, and the client comes back to you for the next catalog.
Workflow
- Offer it at the quote stage: add "video on photos" as an option to catalog or brochure quotes.
- Check the photos: before printing, run the page images through the free image test. It shows which photos phones will recognise well and flags look-alikes that could be confused.
- Set up the library: the client can open their own account or you can manage it. Photos are uploaded and a video is matched to each.
- Add the QR code to the print: download the branded QR code from the dashboard, size it with the QR code size calculator and place it in the safe area.
- Test on the proof: try the proof with a phone; if gloss lamination is used, check for glare on photo areas.
Pre-press notes
- Detailed, high-contrast photos are recognised faster; a single object on a plain background is hard to recognise.
- A matte surface reflects less than gloss lamination.
- Photos near the binding margin end up in the fold; place photos that will be scanned on the flat part of the page.
- For file checks, see the print-ready checklist.
Which jobs is it good for?
Product catalogs (furniture, machinery, sanitaryware, cosmetics), trade fair brochures, real estate brochures, posters, packaging and business cards. For single pieces (a business card, a poster) the free plan may be enough.
Partnership
We work with printers and agencies that want to offer video print to their clients. Reach us through the "Message us" window on the site and we'll prepare a sample print and a demo for you. See the pricing page for plans.
